In
the 18th century, India was the richest, wealthiest land on earth, unable
to count its bounty!! Then came the English!! In a mere century and a half, England managed to bleed it so dry, that it is now one of the poorest country on the planet, its staggering poverty visible everywhere, and India has not been able in fifty years of independance to make even a dent in the nightmare heritage handed down by the brits!! A fine growth rate (we know who profits from that!!), a thriving IT industry, nukes and space technology notwithstanding! The last to stand up to the barbarians from Europe was the mighty Tippu Sultan, who succeeded in keeping southern India free till the last year of the century. He was killed at the siege of Srirangapatnam, and in the wake of His passing, the sun set upon India for 150 years!! |
